Import, split, and re-summarize for every destination

TL;DR

What changedWhat it means
Import in the appDrag an audio file or a transcript onto the import area above the record button, and Oris makes a note in any destination.
Split in the appSplit a recording that held several meetings into one note per meeting, for Obsidian, Apple Notes or a folder.
Re-summarize for Apple Notes and importsRe-summarize works on notes in Apple Notes and on imports, and replaces the summary in the note.
Progress in RecordingsEach recording’s progress is its own row in Recordings, instead of a line under the record button.
Per-recording context menuEvery row has Open note, plus a context menu for everything else, opened from its … button or with a right-click.
Recover a failed quick noteA quick note that couldn’t be saved has an Import button, and its recording stays in Recordings until you import or delete it.
Pro section in SettingsSettings shows your plan and a Copy link button for your referral link.
Bug fixesOrange main buttons, easier-to-read warnings, Quick Notes naming where a note went, and Obsidian plugin fixes.

Importing a file or splitting a long recording into separate notes used to require Obsidian’s command palette. Both work from the Oris app now, for any destination (Obsidian, Apple Notes, or a Markdown folder), and a few other pieces of the recording workflow moved along with them.

Import

There’s an import target above the record button in the app, a drop zone for any audio or transcript file you want to run through the pipeline. Drag a file onto it, or click to pick one. Each import gets its own row in Recordings while Oris transcribes it on your Mac and summarizes it, then writes the note to wherever your meetings go (your vault, your Apple Notes account, or a folder of Markdown files).

It accepts audio files (a Voice Memo export, a Zoom or Teams download) and transcript files (VTT or SRT subtitle files, an Otter export, a Teams meeting transcript). Format is detected automatically. Drop several files at once and they queue, each with its own row.

Oris never sends your audio anywhere. Transcription runs on-device, the same as any recorded meeting.

Split

Split is in every recording’s context menu, and it works for any destination, including Apple Notes and Markdown folders. If you recorded through a long block of back-to-back meetings without stopping, Split carves the recording into one note per meeting from the existing transcript. No re-transcription, no re-recording.

The Obsidian command palette still has it if you prefer that path. The in-app context menu is just a faster option that doesn’t require Obsidian to be open.

Re-summarize

Re-summarize picks up two new cases in 0.12. It now reaches notes in Apple Notes, not just Obsidian and Markdown folder notes. It also works on imports as well as recordings.

For an import, Oris re-reads the transcript copy it saved when the note landed, so re-summarize stays available even after the source file is gone. For a recording, it works while the audio and transcript are still on disk.

When you run it, a sheet asks for free-text instructions (added context, a different tone, a focus shift), replaces the summary block in the note in place, and leaves the transcript and anything you wrote untouched. With Oris Pro the sheet also lets you pick a note template for that single run.

Recording progress in Recordings

The record button used to show progress underneath it (“Transcribing…”, “Summarizing…”) while a recording processed. Each recording’s progress is now its own row at the top of Recordings, and that row turns into the finished row when the note is ready. Two recordings processing at once means two rows.

Opening Recordings shows you what finished, what’s running, and what failed, all at once. No separate place to check and no state split between two places.

Per-recording context menu

Every row in Recordings has a context menu: click the … button at its right edge, or right-click the row. It holds Open note, Share, Show in Finder, Open log, Split, Re-summarize, the two retry options, and Delete audio. What appears depends on the row’s state. A row still processing doesn’t offer Re-summarize yet; a row with no audio skips Delete audio.

On a note delivered to Apple Notes, Share reads Open in Apple Notes to share rather than the system share sheet, because the note lives in Notes.

Quick note recovery

If a quick note couldn’t be saved, the error message now has an Import button. It runs the kept audio through the same import pipeline, and the recording sits in Recordings labelled “Quick note audio, not saved” with Import, Show in Finder, and Delete audio until you act on it.

A few smaller things

  • Pro section in Settings. A Pro section in the settings window shows your current plan and a referral link row with a Copy link button.
  • Orange main buttons, cleaner warnings. Primary action buttons are now orange (brand ember), and warning messages are easier to read at a glance.
  • Quick Notes names the destination. The delivery confirmation now says where the note went (Apple Notes, your vault, or your folder).
  • Very short recordings no longer get placeholder summary lines.
  • Obsidian plugin fixes.
